How to Blow Up a ZANGEROI Snow Tube

How to inflate the rubber river/snow tube and the covered 47-inch snow tube, how full is full, and what to do when it will not hold air.

The short answer

Open the valve, attach a pump, and fill the tube until it reaches its full diameter — not just until it feels firm. ZANGEROI's rubber river/snow tube comes with a valve tool: align it with the valve and turn it clockwise until it stops, or air leaks round it. The covered 47-inch snow tube takes an electric or hand pump (not included) and is full when its bottom sounds like a drum when tapped.

Step by step: the rubber river/snow tube

  1. Lay the tube flat and find the valve. Take off the safety cap — the listing's valve stem is short, so it will not bruise you when you ride.
  2. Fit the included valve tool to the valve and turn it clockwise until it will not turn further. This seals the connection; a loose fit is the usual cause of air escaping as you pump.
  3. Attach your pump to the tool and inflate. The 37-inch tube becomes firm at about 32 inches across; the 45-inch at about 42. Keep going to the full 37 or 45 inches.
  4. Remove the pump, turn the tool back off, and refit the cap.

Step by step: the 47-inch snow tube with cover

  1. Put the inner tube into the snow tube jacket (the cover) while it is flat or barely inflated.
  2. Inflate through the valve with an electric or hand pump. The listing says a hairdryer can also do it in a few minutes; a pump is quicker and more reliable in the cold.
  3. Stop when the cover is evenly filled and the bottom makes a drum sound when you tap it. Fit the seat cover and check the handles and tow cord.

Pumps and valve adapters

A hand pump is light to carry up a hill and slow; an electric pump or a car's 12 V inflator fills a 45- or 47-inch tube in a few minutes. Whichever you use, the connection matters more than the pump: on the river tube, seat the included valve tool fully before you start, and on the covered snow tube check the pump's nozzle fits the valve snugly. If the pump hisses at the valve, stop and refit it — pumping through a leak only warms the air.

River tube or snow tube?

The ZANGEROI Heavy Duty Rubber River Tube / Snow Tube is a bare rubber inner tube — a sled on snow, and a float on a river, lake or pool in summer. The ZANGEROI 47-inch Snow Tube with Cover is built for snow only: a cover with two handles, a cushioned seat and a tow cord for pulling it back up the hill, and a higher weight limit. If you want one tube for the whole year, the river tube; if you want the more comfortable sled, the covered snow tube.

Safety and care

Stay under the weight limit — 180 lb for the river tube, 200 lb for the snow tube — and ride one person at a time. In general, sled on clear slopes away from roads, trees and water, and feet-first rather than head-first. Air contracts in the cold, so check the pressure at the top of the hill. After use, let the tube dry, deflate it and store it out of direct sun; rubber lasts longer out of UV. These are general care points, not the listings' instructions.

Questions

How do you blow up a ZANGEROI snow tube?

Open the valve, fit the pump (the river tube comes with a valve tool — turn it clockwise until it stops), and inflate until the tube reaches its full size: 37 or 45 inches for the river tube, or until the 47-inch snow tube's bottom sounds like a drum.

What pump do I need?

Any pump that fits the valve. The snow tube listing names electric pumps, hand pumps and a hairdryer; the pump is not included.

How full should a snow tube be?

Full size, not just firm: the 37-inch tube is firm at about 32 inches but is not fully inflated until 37.

How do I deflate it?

Open the valve and press the air out, rolling the tube towards the valve.

What is the weight limit?

180 lb for the 37- and 45-inch tubes, 200 lb for the 47-inch snow tube, per the listings.
